Hi, I'm a fledging user of iching.
I can't seem to understand this particular one.

I was asking if I would get into a relationship this year.

Additional background, I never had a relationship.
Also recently went back to school after 7 years of rebellion.
Currently 27.

To me, it seems like a negative reading. But that don't seem right either

Happy New Year Everyone! I just broke things off (again) with an ex and I feel like it's really over this time. I felt a sense of relief when I did it even though I miss him tremendously. The last email he sent to me ended:

From my experience with the universe, I don’t think this is the last time we’ll talk. But until then, I wish you the very best, too.


So I asked IC: How do I know if it's really over between me & Nx? The answer was 8.12.4.5 > 54. I think 8.5 is confirming it's over, but why so many changing lines? And is 54 saying that if I accept a subordinate position in the relationship (as I feel like I have) that it can continue successfully? Any insight would be so graciously recieved! Thanks in advance

So I've been asking Yi about money -- how to get it -- for a while and I feel like it's been playing coy -- giving me rather ambiguous answers that I don't understand. I'm considering how to branch off with various options, including starting a business, a nonprofit, getting a job... or maybe something else.

Today I asked again about money and it gave me 4.2.5.6 Youthful Folly > 8 Union.

.2: “The second line, dynamic, shows its subject exercising forbearance with the ignorant, in which there will be good fortune; and admitting even the goodness of women, which will also be fortunate. He may be described also as a son able to sustain the burden of his family.
.5: “Childlike folly brings good fortune.
.6: “In dealing with youthful immaturity, there is nothing to be gained from doing what is wrong. Advantage lies in preventing wrong."

.2 makes some sense in my broader ventures, which I view as trying to help the greater human community, and so that requires tolerance of many different kinds of personalities. But I don't see how that helps me with money. And I don't quite see how the other lines relate. I'm certainly a beginner with respect to making money... so in that sense the hex makes sense. But still, I didn't see what it was telling me to do. The gentleness and docility recommended by 4.5 -- I'm not sure how that applies to me. And I haven't really been in the business of punishing myself or anyone else for any transgressions in this sphere, so again, I'm not sure how 4.6 applies.

So I asked Yi to clarify and/or restate its answer in another way which I might understand better.
And I got
59.3.4 Dispersion > 44 Coming to Meet
.3: “He dissolves his self. No remorse.”
.4: “He disperses his group of companions [Namely a group of people who have proved themselves inimical to the public good] -- sublime good fortune! Dispersion leads to accumulation, but this is not something that ordinary people understand.”

So here the comparisons to the previous reading are clear. There is the broad-minded, tolerant nature of 4.2 being echoed in 59.4. There is the gentle, docile, submissive nature of 4.5 echoed in 59.3. And the link of the counterintuitive to the success is given in both 4.6 and 59.4 (though it’s tempting to over-punish, that’s not the way to success; though it may seem strange, through dispersion, one accumulates).

Ok, but I’m still not sure how to apply these lessons concretely. Any ideas?

Thank you to everyone who assisted me on my last reading. After the betrayal, lies and total disrespect I have been shown by a former "friend", I have been trying to come to terms with it all. To be honest with you, I kind of already knew what was going on based on the timeline of events, things said, things I've seen online and by using deductive logic. I've had my suspicions for quite a long time seeing as how we haven't been together for almost 6 months. I have my good moments and bad moments but I'm not as distraught as I thought I would be. It's probably because I've been suffering for so long, alone and have become a Hermit for the most part. I now truly understand what depression is but I'm constantly daily struggling with it to come out on top. The reason why I held on so long, was because of the promises this individual made me that no one else in my life ever has. These are the kind of promises and the connection that I felt as well, now that I know it was only me feeling this way, led me to believe something so pure couldn't end. In any case I'm doing what I can to plug forward and I just cast a question in regards to moving forward and would like your input.I asked "How should I act towards what she's done to me?" And received Hexagram 1.5>14......I believe this is a great combination, but for what I don't know. Line 5 tells me "dragon is flying in heaven see great people." The relating hexagram being 14 sounds good but I don't know how to tie these together.I'll take a stab at it and see what I come up with.... I believe what it's telling me is that I'm better than this, I'm better than what was done to me, rise above it and see the great person Within Myself, project that to the outer world which would lead to great possession of some sort. Any other ideas? Once again I apologize for the wall of text, when I type it into the box to post this everything is spaced out and looks good it but as soon as I hit submit is just one solid block. If anybody could tell me how to fix that that would be great so I don't subject any readers to a literal wall of text. Thanks for your help

The hex 46 seems to say sure but slowly, have faith and trust

Hex 58 means satisfy, serenity, exchange... It's very positive too !

So it's seems that the cosmos say a big yes even if the Yi don't really answer by that i think !

Hello fellow I-Chingers,

I am in a competitive situation with somebody for something. Striking how clearly line 41.3 says that there is unfortunately not enough space for all of us. But as you know, alone with that it is impossible to say who exactly will have to quit the field. I hope that the other line, line 41.2, may give a hint, but I am puzzled, therefore I cannot even give an own interpretation.

39.1.3.6 to 42 Unsure how to proceed, any advice/help please.

Hi all,


I was wondering ifanyone has any advice for me please. I've been working on ananimation series over the last couple of years, along with a musicalbum and writing two books. Everything is nearing completion and Iam now also in a good finacial position to bring it to a close.


Yesterday I wasinformed that my main job was coming to a end in the next 2 and a halfweeks, and I was thinking now would be a very good time toconcentrate on these projects with a view to finishing them andfinally after many years of work - releasing them.


However afterconsulting the iching this afternoon regarding these three projects Iam somewhat confused how to proceed, as I have received the followinghexagram with these changing lines.


Hexagram 39(Obstruction)
Line 1
Line 3
Line 6


Changing to hexagram 42(Increase)


And after asking forfurther clarification on this answer I received hexagram 49 nochanging lines.


I'm not entirely surehow well the animation, music or books will do, but I feel if I don'ttry I will never know. However I would very much like to find out asfeel desparate for a change and a new beginning in regards to work.

Back on form after a decade

Hi all, I am back and really like to update my posts. Can anyone give clear directions on how to go about finding the posts I have written? I tried navigating with no luck. I started using the Yi Ching again and the number of posts I read that stated 'oh I will be back to update' and never did was so annoying. Makes me think I want to update my posts because I don't want to be causing others the same frustration I felt!! I remember the subject matters I would have done readings on and can now say what's happened. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong spot . Thank you for your help.

I think it means to only move ahead if i am sure. If i get a confirmation three times. Is this right?

I am having problems with a woman who is causing issues for me. She is influencing others against me and talking about me behind my back to others.

I feel like the reading is saying i am inly seeing with one eye. So i only know part of what is going on. The shock is yet to come???

Any insights would be welcome.

Racism & Jealousy 51 Unchanging

Hey everyone

I have an issue with a neighbour, he lives behind us.
If you dont know I am currently in the Philippines.
The house I live in is probably the nicest in the compound.
This guy lives in a real dump.

I was walking off to the shops and he and his GF were walking by and he spat on the ground.
I kind of realised after passing him a few feet that it was deliberate.
I let my fiancee know, and she said she has been hearing some comments by his GF like making fun of her clothes.

The thing is he has been coughing out the front of the house like one of the times is was like 1 am.
He is doing this on and off..
The bottom line is they are racist and they are jealous. This is a part of living here, there is an element of racism here. Its everywhere in the world I guess,
Its kind of a weird thing as I wasnt sure if it was real or happening in my head.

So I asked what do I need to know about the coughing guy?
From the answer this appears to be a real thing.

I cant help think I am being advised to be aware.?

What do you think?

Hello friends, hope you are well. Several weeks ago I invited colleague from my work (she no longer works there) for a cup of tea, as we had a fairly good connection. I sensed she is somewhat damaged/hurt but she has a good heart so I was curious about whether we can become friends. She unfortunately is very, very closed in her upper chakras and can't read people well- she spent more time with toxic people at our work, regrettably. She is married and there's no sexual attraction from both sides, so it was just an ordinary cup of tea. I listened to previous I Ching reading who said I shall go and meet with her which was a bit against my own will. So I did. The meeting went okay, but she was again very closed... it was Friday evening and we both had a day off but she wanted to talk about work... and it just confirmed my earlier suspicions that at the end of the day, there's really nothing ''for me'' in this relation apart from me ''entertaining her''. I asked I Ching whether I should invite her again? And got:

(she asked her rather than me) also told her that ''the contact between me and her was cut off'' - in reality the way I see it is that I stopped talking to her over the FB and she did nothing to continue our relation. From experience I know those kind of people who never do 50:50 in a relation and always wait for you to do all the work. This doesn't feel right to me. Also, she recently recommended very toxic girl from my work to her hubby, who referred her for interview to a very high profile company position. This also feels wrong to me. My interpretation is that I should forget about this relation and that I Ching wanted to tell me that I should *always* listen to my intuition. But maybe I am missing something and reading that wrong? What do you guys think?

56.1.4>22 New Job

Greetings,

I have worked in the same industry for 30 years and just took an entry level job doing something completely different. Yesterday I attended an optional training session where I think I may have done something that offended others but I'm not sure. Feeling highly emotional on the ride home I pulled over and did an impromptu reading in the car:

"Please give me a picture of how my training session with XYZ went today."
I Ching responded with hexagram 56.1.4>22.

Possible interpretation: during this transitional period (56) I am hindering my progress by fixating on trivial matters (56.1) even though I have everything I really need to succeed (56.4) and have been trying as hard as I can to behave with grace (22).

Is this a self-serving interpretation? How do others see 56.1.4>22? I have received great advice here before and welcome any viewpoints. Honestly, I felt shattered yesterday and I'm having trouble thinking rationally about this subject. The new job potentially represents a huge transition and it has triggered a lot of self-doubt and emotion. Thanks for any input!

42 unchanging death of a cat

Hi, this morning I found my dear cat dead on my bed. She had no problem. She left me probably while sleeping for an heart problem??? Anyway since it was a strange cat, it came in a very strange period, and since she arrived I had a very hard life, I was wandering about the meaning of such a death. So I asked and the answer is 42 unchanging. It might be that this cat had to be near to me in a difficult period and now something is changing (in positive) and so she decided to stop her mission? Please let me know :)

The question I asked was related to finding someone to help or someplace to do volunteer work. I am doing fine in my life but I am very bored and thought it would be good to reach out to do something meaningful for others. This answer is very confusing to me. At first, 42 lines 1,5 seem to say it would be greatly beneficial to go ahead and look for something charitable to do, but then changing to hex 23 seems to say, be still, there is no action worth taking right now.

Missing cat: 33.2.3.4 to 23

A dear friend's beloved rescue cat bolted out an accidentally opened door after getting spooked, and though he's been seen in the neighborhood, he runs whenever anyone approaches him.

As soon as I heard this news, I asked Yi quite urgently, "Where is the cat?" Yi replied:

33.3.4.5 to 23

I know there are quite a few missing cat posts on here from time to time, and it's a hard question to interpret. But I meditated on Tobias the Hamster as I asked Yi, and had some hope for clarity.

It's one of those answers that feels, to borrow a term from horary astrology, "valid." Yi and I are having a conversation about this topic directly. But it's disheartening. I don't have much hope she will recover him. 23 seems to suggest this could be a permanent splitting away from his home, and a painfully unintentional one ("Fruitless to have a direction to go"). 33 just further suggests he's really on the run, retreating, etc. Line 3: he ran because he was scared, not because he wanted to have a great adventure or something. Has he gotten entangled/trapped in something? Does he have a new person already whom he is trying to curry favor with, or that it would be useful for him to do so ("servants"...certainly cats see us people as such, and I mean that in an endearing way). Lines 4 + 5 show him still in retreat, but perhaps making the best of it.

Thoughts, anyone? I think this reading is not particularly hopeful that he will be recovered and returned to my friend, but perhaps it shows he will muddle through decently somehow anyway (33.5).

The first sentence of blurb is off-putting - so someone needs to breathe new life into Yi to make it relevant to the present day? I hadn't noticed. But the rest, and the sample (which sadly doesn't include any actual translation/interpretation) look genuinely interesting.
