Greetings,
I have received wonderful advice here before and would like to request yet more help with a very difficult situation. Recently a work associate got dumped by her husband. He simply packed up his belongings while she was at work and then notified her by e-mail. In addition to dealing with extreme emotional and financial distress she has also lost most of her social circle because they were closer to her husband than to her. Since she and I live in the same neighborhood I volunteered to check on her pets when she left on a trip this week
All the indoor animals are healthy and well-groomed. An outdoor feral cat, close to 20 years of age, is in shockingly deplorable condition. The word "dreadlocks" does not even come close to describing the horrific state of her coat. This cat does not allow human contact but eats, drinks, naps, etc. I saw her for the first time yesterday and have felt haunted ever since. Although I'm no expert I think she would have to be sedated in order for someone to remove the tangled masses of fur. Not sure if a cat of her age would necessarily survive. Honestly, I think my work associate could be charged with animal cruelty or neglect in regard to this situation although associate does seem to genuinely care about the cat.
Last night I received 35.1.3.4.6>36 when I asked what I should do to help the feral cat. Since 35 and 36 are a "hexagram pair", so to speak, I find myself thinking that 35.6 might be the most meaningful line in my reading. I tend to think (rightly or wrongly) that the top line of a hexagram is generally a precursor to the conditions described in the following hexagram.
35.6 - Wing: Take aggressive and offensive measures only when you seek to discipline yourself. Such severe precautions will help you to avoid regretful errors. Do not, however, make the mistake of using the same force on others or you will suffer the humiliation of alienation and failure.
Is the I Ching possibly advising that I take no action right now? Incidentally, this morning I left house keys on kitchen counter of associate's residence so I no longer have access to property. She is returning later today. Sorry I haven't analyzed this reading further but I don't feel quite able to think rationally about situation yet.
Thanks in advance for any opinions and guidance.
