My 17 year old daughter has been in Austria all summer.
I am very proud of her, she saved up her own money, worked on a film set to get the money.
However, she lost her bank card, for some reason the registered letter with the new card never arrived (it left my country, just never appeared on the tracking again). She then blocked that card
I transferred money to a friends account.
She then missed the flight home.
Turns out s new card had arrived, she asked me to open the envelope and send her the details.
Then it turns out that this card is blocked, she needs credit on her phone to ring the bank apparently. I dont have money for the flights, but when i tell her i can get it, she is saying 'no leave it to me, I'll sort it out'
So I have been trying to credit her phone, numerous small obstacles have arisen, some created by my daughter.
The concern I actually have is that, when she missed her flight, she was on the phone to me, v emotional. She said that she doesn't want to go back to her school (like a vocational programme where they get paid to go, and they are taught in smaller classes, a bit more like college, with lots more support, because she couldn't deal with conventional second level school. This course gives her the equivalent of a school leaving qualification, easier then to go to college).
She said that she "has a plan", which involves persuading a vocational technical college to let her go straight in and do a course. I told her that this is unlikely, because her attendance is v low, and she is already quitting a vocational course.
She's not listening!
So I am thinking that a lot of these obstacles are perhaps contrived by herself... she is claiming that the only flight she can get back is in 2 weeks (which is getting a bit late to sort any school or course )
She claims that she has already cancelled the school.
She has been staying with friends in Vienna, it seems without money. She sent me pics of an anarchist collective, full of punks like herself, where she has been staying and helping them build things.
It seems my little bird might have flown the nest!
I do feel that she will come home, in a few weeks, too late for us adults to persuade her back to school.
Needless to say, I have told her that I love and support her choices, as long as she has thought them through deeply, but that if there us no school, then she has to get a job, find a way to earn money.
Well as ye can imagine, I have many concerns here, I am worried, with this fiery strong willed young woman grabbing the reins of her own life so (seems to me) prematurely!
