I was thinking about how sometimes when we consult the I Ching we get clear answers and other times the response is obscure. This is especially puzzling when we get an answer that is obscure and the question could have been answered by another hexagram that would have been spot on clear. Like asking where the lost item is and getting 56 so you look in the car and it's not there and then you proceed to "travel" all over and finally you come home exhausted and decide to take a nap and - Lo and behold! - there are the glasses in your bedroom. So why didn't the IChing give you 37 to begin with? Is it because the I Ching is responding to our emotional state? Would we get a clearer answer if we made sure our feelings were calm and quiet? But sometimes I get my best answers when I'm really distraught... And why give us confusing answers that only make sense in retrospect? Sure, the answers right but it's no help if we can't understand it. Anyway, I asked "What is the I Ching responding to when we ask a question? I received 22.1.4 - 56.
22. Grace, is of course one of the most obscure hexagrams, so thanks a bunch, IC.
22.1 means getting down to basics. So does the I Ching try to give us a clear basic response but we're so off in la-la land we don't get it?
22.4 The crown prince of fantasies line. Maybe indicating the ic can only give us a vague hint?
56. Moving on? Hunh?
In sum this answer suggests to me that perhaps we get obscure answers when we don't have a clear idea of what we're asking? Like we need to move or travel around a bit? Look elsewhere for answers?
Any ideas appreciated!
